Subtropical climate
Nerja is one of the most beautiful small towns in Spain. With its approximately 320 sunny days a year and high mountains that protect the area from cold and heat, the climate for us from northern Europe feels like summer all year round and therefore it is a popular area to spend in the winter. The area around Nerja is located in Europe's only sub-tropical plant zone.

Activities
Burriana is a family-friendly and popular beach with plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes and activities for the whole family. Here you will find, among other things, Nerja's diving center with Swedish-speaking staff, where boat trips, diving lessons, kayak rentals, canoeing and snorkelling are offered.
Burriana also has some of the best bars in Nerja and the paella served here has received a lot of attention in the area.
Hiking;
For those seeking tranquility, we recommend a walk in the stunning village of Maro, known for its pleasant hiking trails. If you want a real adventure, we recommend a hike to the mountain peak "Pico del cielo" (sky peak), or a walk up the river Rio Chillar that leads you to fantastic waterfalls!
Skiing:
Only 120 km from Nerja you will find the famous ski resort Sierra Nevada, which is open between December and April!

Tourist attractions
The Balcón de Europa is Nerja's most famous landmark and a central place for city activities. A walk along the Balcón de Europa offers spectacular panoramic views of the entire coastline. There are twelve beaches located within or near Nerja and the resort boasts some of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa del Sol. There is everything from small cozy coves to large sandy beaches such as Playa Burriana or the beautiful beach Playa de Maro which in 2013 was voted the best in Andalusia and the 2nd best in all of Spain! Crystal clear waters and unbeatable landscape make the beach in Maro a clear favorite for many. A wonderful and beautiful excursion is to paddle sea kayaking between Burriana beach in Nerja to Maro. There are many hidden coves, turquoise baths, caves and waterfalls. A Spanish TV program concluded that "Paradise exists and it is here in Andalusia."
One of the most popular attractions in the area is the beautiful stalactite caves just outside Nerja. They were discovered in 1959 by some boys from the village. Archaeological research has shown that the caves are very old and they have served as human settlements up to about 15-25,000 years ago, but there are even older remains from people who are about 40,000 years old, making the caves one of the oldest the settlements discovered. All year round it is about 20 degrees hot in the caves. We really recommend a visit!

Other
In Nerja there are many opportunities to meet and celebrate, and the city is known for its colorful culture, parties, food, drinks and flamenco dancers. Every two weeks there is a village or town in Andalusia that has its own local fiesta! Parties are arranged here that revolve around everything from religion and history to sports, dance and music!
A popular area to visit on Tuesdays and Sundays 10-14 is the large market at Almijara. Here a market is arranged with fruits, spices, clothes, jewelry and souvenirs on Tuesdays, and on Sundays you can find furniture and furnishings in the same place.
